In 2021, this quintessential UWS restaurant Old John’s Luncheonette reopened in the same 67th Street location with a new name, a spruced-up dining room, and amazing homemade ice cream. This is a great place to eat a thick, satisfying burger and drink a martini with someone near Lincoln Center, but we’d also recommend bringing some children in your life for grilled cheese and ice cream sundaes. Despite being revamped, Old John’s still has old-school charm: jazz playing over the speakers, staff who have been working there for years, and egg creams at the ready.

Old John's Burger

A thick, 8oz burger, served with white cheddar on a sesame bun, with above-average, skin-on fries. It's $16, and you don't need to add an egg ($2), but you can.

Tuna Melt

The tuna salad is good, with plenty of veggie crunch, but there’s not a lot of cheese on this $14 melt. We like our tuna melts to be a compact unit, and this one's on the drier but messier side.

My Momma's Meatloaf

This tastes like very high quality airplane food, and the toasted almonds on the green beans are a nice touch.

Challah French Toast

Get this for the table. The thick-sliced challah is eggy through and through.

Ice Cream

The pretty stained glass "Ice Cream" sign in the back is a good advertisement, but in case you need further persuasion, the homemade scoops here come in frozen goblets, in flavors like roasted banana and sour cherry sorbet. Eating the mint chocolate chip is like chewing fresh mint leaves, and it's full of shards of dark chocolate.
