The brisket at Moreno BBQ holds its own with the best in town—seasoned minimally with just salt and pepper—and the jalapeño cheddar sausage is some of the snappiest we’ve had. But the real reason you should be here is for the extensive menu of combos, from barbacoa and pork belly tacos to brisket gouda mac and cheese and pulled pork nachos. Show up with a group and leave with all the picky eaters happy. Moreno is also home to two different burgers: a smoked one and a smashed one. Both have their merits, but it’s the smashburger we find ourselves ordering when the craving strikes for that timeless combination of griddled meat, cheese, and toasted buns. Unlike many Austin barbecue spots, you typically won’t find much of a line here—there’s even an indoor dining room and a large, tree-shaded patio to enjoy your meal.
