LDNReview
Carmel is a place to feel hot and eat excellent carbs. Unlike its other rom-com-ready, family-friendly Queen’s Park location, the polished Fitzrovia restaurant is tailor-made for boozy business lunches and boisterous dinners when parents have the night off. Lipstick smudges are left on Negroni glasses and the sprawling, low-lit space buzzes with thumping music and raised voices. The eastern Mediterranean food is great, and we would come just for the bread: the Jerusalem bagel with creamy labneh, charred challah with smooth butterbean hummus, the list of sourdough flatbreads topped with cod’s roe, crab, and more. Vegetable dishes can be hit and miss, but if you’re with a group, it’s worth getting the urfa chilli chicken to share—order extra bread to mop up the sharp pomegranate jus.
