At Bubba Gump in Times Square, tall plastic cups overflow with a boozy blue substance described as “Hawaiian,” and 40-person groups eat cylindrical hush puppies while staring at a Nasdaq ticker across the street. An odd cultural outlier inspired by the film that cleaned house at the ‘94 Oscars, this place is mostly intended for tourists who haven’t yet learned that there’s a world beyond Midtown. The atmosphere is kitschy, the service is exhausted, and the fried fish is mostly breading. If you’re in a goofy sort of mood, you might enjoy yourself. Try to avoid this restaurant, but if you do wind up here, focus on the shrimp.
